INDIVIDUAL THERAPY: ADULTS
Many of us are not taught how to talk about feelings, how to name them or understand them. How do you overcome mental health issues, traumas or blocks when you don't know how to say it or even know what they are?

Things happen in life that are hard to talk about, they can bring up feelings of shame and fear, saying it can make it feel too real. Sometimes we need help to figure out what's happening in our brains so we can get back to living our best lives. Our therapists are highly trained in psychological interventions which allow you to communicate without the spoken word if you need it. No, you won't be dancing like Shakira or painting like Picasso, you will be working with a therapist and nonverbal prompts are on hand if you need it.

INDIVIDUAL THERAPY:
CHILDREN & TEENS
Children and young people in need of therapy often don't have the words to express themselves, have barriers that need to be gently disarmed and this is why Arts Therapies are so impactful. Whether you're looking for support for an anxious teen, a looked after child or nurturing SEN, we have a therapist to suit the individual.
Client A
Without your support I would be still very lost, scared & traumatised.
Client B
I have never experienced any context where I felt appreciated or taken seriously without judgement nor wanting while encouraged at the same time. This has been quite remarkable to receive and has been in itself healing.
Client C
Before I started Therapy, I was stuck living in fear. Thank you so much for supporting me.

Where will my therapy sessions take place? We can see you online or at one of our many spaces across the UK. Once you provide your preferences via the self-referral form, our team will find the best locations based on your answers and give you options.
-
How many sessions will I have access to?We recommend 12 sessions to begin with as this gives both you and your therapist a chance to build a strong and trusting relationship. You will probably want to have more, and that’s OK – it takes time to feel safe to be able to express how you’re feeling and work through those difficulties. However, having said that, some people would prefer more short-term therapy. Just ask and we will accommodate your needs.
-
How often do arts therapy sessions take place? /How often will I see my therapist?Ideally, you will see your therapist once a week. This is so that a regular relationship can build on trust and reliability – knowing that someone is there when you need them to be. However, we can work to suit your needs and financial situation if you are not eligible for means-tested reduced rates.
-
How long does the referral process take?We pride ourselves on short turnover from referral to therapy starting. It depends on factors like client correspondence or specific wants or needs which can prolong therapy starting.
-
How do I apply for reduced arts therapy fees?Select the "apply for means testing" option when completing the referral form, following this you will be asked to upload some documentation.
-
How long does the means testing process take to apply for reduced therapy fees?If you can cover the costs of therapy, this will be a much quicker process. However, we will work with you as quickly as possible to get your funding in place for therapy.
-
What type of therapy do you offer?Arts Therapies UK is the only organisation in the country that offers all five modalities of arts therapies – Art Psychotherapy, Music Therapy, Play Therapy, Dramatherapy and Dance Movement Psychotherapy. We also have therapists trained in other areas such as EMDR, couples therapy and talking therapies.
-
How do I pay for my arts therapy sessions? We will invoice you for therapy monthly, or even more regularly if you prefer.
-
Do I need to be ‘good’ at the arts to attend arts therapy sessions? No. Arts therapies are not about creating technically skilled artworks or learning how to act, make music or dance. Therapy is hard, saying things is hard, the art forms are there to help you get your thoughts and feelings out when you don't have the words, or find things difficult to say. Some people find drawing or writing it out works for them, others will find using movement, role play or music more suitable. We have therapists who use RAP, Hip Hop and DJ styles of music as well as graffiti and street art – we can pretty much find something for everyone. Words can sometimes hold us back, but now they don't have to.
-
Can arts therapy sessions take place online?Yes. We can see you online and in person. Select your option on the referral form and we will pair you with the most suitable therapist based off your needs.
